Upgrade the spindle motor in your Carvera and significantly increase the material removal performance of your machine.
The spindle motor in the original Carvera is rather disappointing in it's performance. Unlike it's newer brother the Carvera Air, it is difficult to make use of the 200 watt max power. This is for a number of reasons, the motor control feedback loop is slow, and doesn't implement PID proportional feedback scaling.
Not only can the motor control be significantly improved, but the machine frame also is capable to use a larger motor with high max power as well. This upgrade kit achieves both of this using a 600w AC Servo Motor.
The kit is planned to go even further and implement digital communication between the Carvera control board and the motor controller to support detailed load feedback, and rotation position control for rigid tapping use.
Currently a functioning prototype powers my personal machine, and development is in progress to implement digital communication.
The demonstration video shown here removes material from 7075 aluminum 22x greater than the Makera suggested speeds and feeds for 6mm tooling. This is a Material Removal Rate of 13.2 CM3/min.
